In this update we see some pretty exciting new features. Greg did up a first-draft of some in-game sound effects which makes the game a whole lot more immersive - and we get the key customization thing down into a proper menu.

The post-victory stats now include 4 new badges! They are test-badges that are pretty hard to earn, and you can't earn them all in one go.

This update also fixes a few player control issues that people have complained about for a while.

As usual, see all the gory details after the jump.

GAMEPLAY CHANGES:

These probably break most replays (Sorry about that!) but shouldn't have any far reaching effects (like ruining levels).

- Halved the player turn-around sensitivity. Now tapping an arrow key should result in you turning around a lot sooner than before.
- Friction changes are now considered before movement is applied, instead of the frame after. The big benefit: Tapping an arrow key faster than 1/30th of a second now means you move a small amount (good for inching up to a ledge or negotiating small platforms).
- The player no longer experiences the "stopping jolt" upon landing, as long as they have left/right held down at the time.
- Added AirTime to the recorded stats for replays.
- Some trial-run testing badges introduced:
+ Wings Badge: 85%+ of your time was spent in the air.
+ Boots Badge: 5%- of your time was spent in the air
+ Wall-o-phobe: 0% walljumps
+ Wall-a-maniac: 100% walljumps

ART CHANGES:

- The particle trail behind the projectile is a different color now, and stands out a bit more.
- User options menu redone to hold all the new features.
- Removed "Advanced Tutorials" from the level list.
- Made the Structural Bond a bit lighter in color to help differentiate it from Single Bonds.
- The creator of the level is now more prominently featured in their own text box (it is still their UserID for now. Will become username soon)

AUDIO CHANGES:

- Draft #1 of in-game sound effects is now up! Right now we just have a single audio track so things won't overlap.

EDITOR CHANGES:

- The Clear Level dialogue box didn't pop out quite far enough. Fixed.

GENERAL CHANGES:

- Fixed User Level 15 not animating the MouseOver indication.
- Made the output box clear after beating a level (less confusion on the figures)
- The inbuilt mouse cursor should be working on all platforms now, and be oriented correctly. Let me know if there's any orientation issues or difficulties using it in the editor (precision problems, etc.)
- There is now a specific victory screen for the Tutorials, seperate from the general victory/gameover screens.
- Removed the Next and Previous buttons from the level gameover/victory screens. They have been replaced with a link to open the level list.
- There is now a menu to handle your key-assigning needs!
- There is now a "Save Replay" button on the End-game menu.

CURRENT TUTORIAL LEVELS:

These are still under construction but are the basic gist of tutorialness for the game:

Tutorial 1: 585 Collecting and Jumping: Now bigger and more fun on it's own.
Tutorial 2: 535 Firing: Now bigger and more fun as well.
Tutorial 3: 586 Nitrogen: Now shows a very "light" booby trap and mostly-enclosed (unreachable) Elements.
Tutorial 4: 587 Hydrogen
Tutorial 5: 584 Single Bonds
Tutorial 6: 544 Double bonds
Tutorial 7: 545 Ghost Bonds
Tutorial 8: 588 Carbon/Iron intro
Tutorial 9: 503 Wall-Jumping

Um, is holding X to shoot rapid fire intended?

Yup, sure is.

Of course you won't get the non-fire-spamming badge if you hold it down. :colbert:

Okay, good. Just making sure. BTW, just a question, but why don't you ever let anyone PM you?

EDIT: Another problem. When you're editing a level and it has no elements in it, it automatically registers it as a win and the debug screen pops up.

I don't let people PM me because nobody has ever had a truly private issue to PM me with. Anything you gotta say you can say it to the whole forum, or it can be taken up with Pn tech support ( support@protonaut.net ). I'm happy to answer things on the forum like "what should I do about my girlfriend" or "how can I make a game" etc etc... it's not private!

I'll look into the editing bug, thanks!

Nice sounds, but exploding Nitrogen = DEATH! AHH

Turns out some of the sounds (Oxygen Get and Nitrogen Get) are corrupted or being played wrong or something, so those two will definitely change. :)

Whoa, new music!? Nice!

Also, I propose the new awesome-thing-to-do: Damage Boosting

The level: http://www.protonaut.net/?level=598

How to do it: http://www.protonaut.net/?replay=122

Much harder than it looks, though!

OOooh, you found my secret "pro" move :) I predict launching yourself from nitrogen will end up being something that only the best of the best do. :) You should get a ribbon for discovering!

I'll have a music-post up soon too.

i noticed the next and previous level buttons are gone, how am i supposed to see all the levels in order now?

also there is this glitch, wich i call the replay glitch

If I am watching a replay and then click on a level, it takes me to a replay of that level isntead of the level

It doesn't make sense to do all the levels "In Order", since most will be tests, fails, or unpublished levels. Use the level browser to find some good ones to play, or the level select screen!

Also, Build 36 will give you a way to exit out of a replay.

I dunno what you did there to make that happen. It doesn't work on any of my levels. Can you elaborate on how you achieved it?

I don't know what I did I was just trying to make a simple trap and that was the result. Here's a solution if you need it http://www.protonaut.net/?replay=131 .

It's pretty much black-hole glitching, and is usually caused by placing more than one bond on a joint, or overlapping a whole bunch of things.. you didn't do that, did you?

Nope, just three iron blocks, nothing over lapping, just as it appears.

Hm. I'll have to do some tests in a bit.

:siren: WARNING: REPLAYS AND LEVEL LOADS MIGHT NOT WORK FROM HERE ON OUT. RESTORED IN B36. :siren:

Okay, but I do want to know how to make a game... I really want to know. I even want to help make a game with you.
